This course will provide the students with the opportunity to design and develop a learning contract or clinical guidelines relevant to their specialty area of practice. This is a mandatory course in the Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner)and Master of Midwifery Studies Programs.
All students are advised to select this course towards the end of their program to allow time to further develop their academic skills.
| Objectives | On completion of this course the student will:
1 Demonstrate a sound understanding of a selected area of advanced practice based on an examination of a clinical issue or practice concern; 2. Use conceptual frameworks that are relevant to advanced practice 3. Provide a clear and scholarly presentation commensurate with postgraduate level studies. |

| Content | Student requirements will depend on their program of enrolment
1. Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) students: Nurse practitioner students will be required to complete all of the following components towards their professional portfolio:
" Clinical practice " Clinical supervision " Adaptation of clinical practice guidelines
2. Students enrolled in other Masters Programs: Students enrolled in other Masters Programs will be required to complete one of the following components for their learning contract. If students have already successfully completed Contract Learning B then they must chose a different topic for this course.

| Assumed Knowledge | Foundations of nursing knowledge, nursing theory, legal and ethical issues, fundamentals of research, human bioscience, psychology, sociology related to practice. Principles of investigative approaches in nursing, concepts and theories relevant to practice, contemporary nursing issues. Academic reading and writing skills, ability to access and evaluate information from a variety of sources, skills in critical analysis, critical judgment, synthesis and evaluation. Ability to conceptualise practice. Demonstrated Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council competencies.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Nurse Practitioner students must complete HUBS6202 and NURS6620 prior to NURS6621 |

| Requisites | Course enrolment is limited to students in MN(NP), MN(AdvPrac),MMid, MAM (Nurs) and M Pharm. Concurrent practice will take place at the student's regular place of employment. Criminal check will be the responsibility of the employer. Nurse Practitioner students must complete NURS6620 and HUBS6202 prior to NURS6621. |
