Mode of deliveryThe programme is offered in full online mode, all course work and materials are provided through an online portal for each course. Students are able to participate in online tutorials and interact with lecturers and other students through online discussion groups. The Master of Property provides a flexible and relevant learning experience that meets the current and anticipated future needs of students, employers, the property industry and the wider community. The program is aimed at those already working in the property industry, or those working in related sectors who aspire to move into this field. Students entering the program come from a diverse range of backgrounds and use the knowledge and skills gained in this postgraduate qualification to enhance their career development in a chosen field. The program is designed to equip students with a wide range of practical skills and specialist knowledge for different property-based careers.

The study components serve to facilitate both students' professional and personal growth. Graduates will be equipped with a broad knowledge and understanding of property as an asset class within national and international markets and with the skills necessary to research, analyse and advise on decisions relating to the acquisition, administration, management, disposal, development and financing of property assets.

At the University of Newcastle, we recognize that many of our students are in highly demanding employment. Flexible study options are therefore of vital importance. In response we have tailored this program for delivery on a part-time basis in online distance learning mode.

Admission to the program will be competitive and on the basis of a completed undergraduate degree from an approved institution, with relevant qualifications in the following discipline areas:

  • property, building, quantity surveying, construction management, construction economics; and/or
  • related discipline areas including business, finance and commerce.

A minimum of two years relevant work experience in a property or property related field including property management, facilities management, land development, investment analysis, valuation, planning, project management, quantity surveying and other allied areas of professional practice.

Applicants with qualifications less than a relevant undergraduate degree, such as a relevant diploma or certificate, and with more than 5 years property industry work experience may apply for the Graduate Certificate of Property Program.

The Master of Property (MProp) program has partial accreditation from the Australian Property Institute (API) and is endorsed for Associate Membership of the API. The API endorsement is effective for both future graduates and those who have completed their studies in 2007.

The API is Australia's peak body for property professionals. The Institute's primary role is to set and maintain the highest standards of professional practice, education, ethics and professional conduct for its members and the broader property profession. API members are highly regarded and respected throughout Australia for their professionalism, knowledge and expertise, and the highest standards of quality and performance.
